Nunca Entendemos Nada é um vídeo criado a partir de um trecho do filme Alphaville (1965), de Jean Luc Godard, que foi gravado e regravado trinta vezes com uma câmera apontada para uma televisão.
O único efeito aplicado durante o processo foi o desfoque do últimos 15 segundos do trecho, que foi feito diretamente na câmera durante a primeira gravação.
Apesar disso, o processo de múltiplas regravações gerou, sozinho, a degradação tanto da imagem quanto do som do filme.
No trecho escolhido o narrador diz o seguinte:
“C’est toujours comme ça, on ne comprend jamais rien. D’ailleurs, c’est toujours comme ça. On ne comprend rien et un soir on finit par on mourir”
Nas legendas, ele foi traduzido assim:
“É sempre assim. Nunca se entende nada. Aliás, é sempre assim. Nunca entendemos nada e, uma noite, acabamos morrendo por isso.”
Este trabalho foi comissionado pelo projeto Ao ar, livre, realizado pelo curador Tiago de Abreu Pinto, que convidou artistas a refletirem sobre sua experiência durante o primeiro ano da pandemia de COVID 19.

Nunca Entendemos Nada (We Never Understand Anything) is a video created from an extract of the film Alphaville (1965), by Jean Luc Godard, which was recorded and re-recorded thirty times with a camera pointed at a television.
The only effect applied during the process was the blurring of the last 15 seconds of the excerpt, which was done directly on camera during the first recording.
Despite this, the process of multiple re-recordings alone led to the degradation of both the image and the sound of the film.
In the chosen excerpt the narrator says the following:
“C’est toujours comme ça, on ne comprend jamais rien. D’ailleurs, c’est toujours comme ça. On ne comprend rien et un soir on finit par on mourir.”
In the subtitles, it was translated like this:
“It is always like this. One never understands anything. In fact, it’s always like that. You never understand anything and one night you end up dying for it.”
This work was commissioned by the project Ao ar, livre, undertaken by curator Tiago de Abreu Pinto, who invited artists to reflect on their experience during the first year of the COVID 19 pandemic.
